As a parent of a member of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team who represented Canada in the 2006 Winter Olympics, I would like to encourage people to consider donating to the CAN Fund through the United Way Campaign.

The time athletes need financial support is when they are about to make a break through onto the international stage. At this time, they are most likely completely funded by their parents. How many young athletes are being left behind because of lack of funding?

Young Canadians need role models to look up to and who better than our Olympians, because of their dedication to the sport they love and representing Canada on the international stage. The emotion evoked by seeing our athletes striving to be the best and standing on top of the podium, seeing the Canadian flag raised and hearing the Canadian anthem is hard to beat. This also inspires children to get away from the TV and computer and get involved in many different sports and thereby encouraging physical fitness. CAN you think of a better cause to support as a parent – the health of our children by supporting their future heroes?

Please consider donating to the Canadian Athletes Now Fund through the United Way as I am again this year.
