Who he Is:
A two time Olympian in the sport of Wrestling (2000 and 2004). Father
of Ebiladei, 5 and Ebiere, 1. Graduate of Simon Fraser University in 2001.
Daniel is currently an elected MLA in the Bayelsa State Legislative Assembly in
Nigeria.
HIS Breakthrough:
Daniel came to Canada from Nigeria in 1994. He became a Canadian citizen in ’98
and went on to represent Canada at the World Championships that year, where he
placed 4th. He became the World Champion in ‘99 and Olympic Champion in 2000. He
was the Canadian Male Athlete of the Year in both ’99 and 2000, and was awarded
the Lou Marsh Athlete Of the Year Award in 2000. Daniel was inducted into the
Canadian sports hall of fame in ‘07.
HIS Biggest Hurdle:
Overcoming the fear of winning Canada's first male World Title and Olympic Title
in wrestling!
Lessons he's Learned:
Pressure is something we should take on with pride. Pressure should be
motivation to prove a lot of fans right and a few detractors wrong.
What's Next:
Daniel looks forward to seeing more great performances by Canadian athletes on
the international sporting landscape.
Breakthrough Advice:
Push the envelope. It's only then that you realize you have limitless
boundaries!
