Canada’s Olympic-bound judo team won two medals at the Dax Cup in Slovenia this weekend. Will Frazer of Star City, Sask., won a silver medal in the 60 kg weight class and Nicholas Tritton of Perth, Ont., picked up a bronze in the 73 kg class. The Dax Cup was the team’s final tournament before the Olympic Games. Results from the other three members of the Canadian team headed to Beijing include a fifth-place finish from Keith Morgan in the men’s 100 kg class. A veteran of the Canadian judo squad, Morgan, of Calgary, Alta., is headed to his fourth Olympic Games in August. North York, Ont. resident, Sasha Mehmedovic finished ninth in the 66 kg class. Canada’s lone female judoka competing in the 2008 Olympic Games, Marylise Levesque of Saint-Pacome, Que., finished seventh in the 78 kg class. |
